The local history museum has set itself the task of providing an insight into the development of the town and its surroundings over the course of history through the exhibits in its showrooms, of which it has 10. The museum of local history is housed in the former castle gate and is therefore already an important witness to Schärding's past due to its architecture, age and significance.
The rooms were once used by the gate guards and have the character of parlours. The aim was to use them for closed subject areas, but also to create a loose chronological guide.
