The light installation in Linz's Old Town was newly initiated by the Altstadt association and designed by Tp3 architects.
The light fountain is a metal column about 9 meters high. During the day, solar panels absorb solar energy; during the night, the energy is released again in the form of light. The base of the column is designed as a seating area and is intended to "invite people to linger". There was a (water) fountain at the site until the late 1990s, which was eventually removed. The light fountain is to continue the function of this former life-giver.
