Welcome to Perg - a place full of history, cultural diversity and the home of the Winery Gmeiner. Here, the tradition of farming became a new passion - when Leonhard Gmeiner took over his parents' farm in 2005 and turned it into a winery - a bold move in a region that was not exactly known for its wine production before that. Since the bold decision to dedicate itself to growing wine in an atypical wine region, the winery has been writing a success story characterised by dedication, hard work and a love of nature. Here, quality, joy, family and the speciality of viticulture in the Danube region are the top priorities. A look behind the scenes reveals how the finest wine is created from visions - authentic and full of life.
 
Leonhard's mission was clear from the very beginning: the unique characteristics of the Mühlviertel region should be reflected in an excellent wine. Although Upper Austria was only recognised as a wine-growing region for the first time in 2008, Leonhard did not shy away from pursuing his dream of winegrowing. The wines from Gmeiner are characterised by authenticity and unmistakable character. Well-known grape varieties are cultivated with great care and craftsmanship, which is reflected in the harmonious white and red wines. Above all, however, it is the Burgundy varieties that grow on the chalky soils of the region and can therefore develop their full flavour. With the winery's sustainable work philosophy and a focus on regional quality, wines are produced under Leonhard's management that delight connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike. From sparkling summer wines to complex vintage wines, the Gmeiner winery offers a diverse selection that makes every glass an experience.
 
The quality of the wines is also reflected in the numerous awards won by the winery. The prestigious Salon Prize 2021, in which it celebrated 2nd place for the best Chardonnay in the whole of Austria, is just one of many accolades. Although the region around Perg started out with a modest 20 hectares of vineyards in the early 2000s, today the entire vineyard area in Upper Austria covers over 100 hectares. One hectare of this is cultivated by Leonhard Gmeiner.
 
The winery offers numerous activities - from captivating vineyard tours to the use of the in-house seminar areas. For couples who want to celebrate their love, there is the option of organising a wedding at an official branch of the registry office. The winery is located along the Donausteig stage on the north bank and leads along the Kugelmanderl-Weg and the Fuchtelmanderl-Weg.
